A Sydney Mermaid Story...
How one mermaid found her pod in the waters of Sydney, Australia
Shello!
I'm Mermaid Lauren, an Artist, Mermaid, and founder of Sydney Mermaids!Growing up in the Pacific Northwest, I spent my childhood swimming in waterfalls, learning about the world of Faerie and dreaming about being a Mermaid.
After graduating from the University of Oregon, I packed up my sketchbook and moved to the beautiful Northern Beaches of Sydney.

How it All Began...
In 2019, I injured my back and couldn’t walk without being in pain. My doctor told me to start swimming and I thought,
Why just swim when I can Mermaid Swim!!?
I started swimming every day in the local ocean pool in the Northern Beaches where I call home.Β First training with a monofin, I worked my way up to a tail. And I always had my boyfriend or other Mer-tender there to make sure I was safe in the water. Mermaiding is dangerous because your legs are essentially tied together, so it’s important to always take precaution.
Eventually, I built up my strength and was able to swim for longer and longer. Mermaiding has been incredible for my recovery!
